Message from Andy’s wife Sarah:
Andy, my soulmate and best friend lost his battle with brain cancer on the 27th March 2020.
Four years on and we all miss him desperately.
Andy wanted us to raise as much money for the Farleigh hospice as possible.
Some of us are going to be trekking in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco to reach the peak of mount Toubkal. We are asking for sponsorship to help us reach our target of £5000
Farleigh, like all hospices are only part funded by the state and therefore have to continually fundraise to continue to offer the amazing work that they di for our community.
Please do give what you can to this amazing organisation so that they can continue to help other families in the way that they have helped us.
Sarah x
Farleigh
The team at Farleigh hospice were with us from soon after the diagnosis. The support given to us has been invaluable. A specialist nurse was allocated to Andy and she visited us several times helping us deal with paperwork for the Blue badge, liaising with our GP and offering support to us both. Andy attended the day centre at the hospice and after being apprehensive about going, soon it became something he looked forward to each week. He got to know the team there and met other people who were also poorly. He became known in the kitchen for having extra sponge pudding. On the last of his sessions the kitchen team had changed the menu to give him his favourite. He also attended the art club and surprised us all with his pencil drawings.
I was given one to one counselling which is still continuing and has been immensely helpful. The children can engage with the YoYo team who will visit them in school to help them where needed.
Andy had two stays in the in-patient unit at Farleigh. One for two weeks just after Christmas and one for nearly 4 weeks in Feb/March. All the staff in the unit were amazing. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. I was able to stay as there was a sofa bed and kitchenette in the room. The care Andy received was fantastic and I was also so well looked after. There was always someone to talk to when Andy was asleep.
The hospice at home nurses came to help me when we were home between the two stays and for the last two weeks after we came home from the hospice as Covid 19 was starting to cause disruption.
This team came into the house with a cheery smile everyday. They would help Andy in any way they could and always have time to check up on me.
Andy would be really pleased if we could raise as much money as possible for Farleigh hospice. We could not fault the dedication, commitment and care that we have both received. The hospice can only function on donations and the work they do is much needed by families like ours.
