Story

Sarah, Hannah, Pierce and Luke are going to be trekking up mount Toubkal in August 2024 to raise money for Farleigh hospice. Mount Toubkal in the Altas mountains is the highest peak in Morocco and all of North Africa, at 4,167m. We will be trekking for 5 days and we are asking for you to sponsor us. We are all training hard and would really appreciate any donations towards our target of £5000.

We did it!!!!!

13th August 2024
So we have safely conquered Mount Toubkal!! It was the most amazing trek starting from the village Imnil at the bottom of the mountain. It took 8 hours of an uphill climb to get the base camp at 3200 meters. We camped in tents and after very little sleep, we started the climb to the summit at 430am with head torches. It was a gruelling 7 hour climb to get to the top sometimes having to scramble over boulders and navigating narrow paths on the edge of the mountain with huge drops. As we climbed the altitude meant that breathing was very laboured and some of the group felt very sick. With the help of our amazing guides everyone made it to the top at 4167 meters. The views were breathtaking and the emotion poured out of many of us. For me, the hardest bit was to come. The descent was very tough as all the rocks that we had climbed up had to be tackled, with the addition that it was now raining making them slippery and it was daylight so the enormity of the height and huge drops became very clear. It took 6 hours to get back to base camp with some very very challenging moments. We then camped in the wind and the rain and in the morning started the walk back to the village which took 7 hours. There are some very achy bodies but we have had the most amazing experience. We have met some lovely fellow hikers and the support from all our family and friends and the knowledge that we were raising much needed funds for Farleigh got us to the top. I know that Andy would be so proud of the four of us.
